The opportunity:

The Director, Employee Relations is responsible for planning and directing all employee relationships activity across the North American region of ~6000 employees. This role will oversee a dedicated team of Employee Relations Advisors delivering best in class employee and manager advice and support on complex talent issues. Reporting to the VP, Human Resources, the incumbent is accountable for providing best practice advice on day to day talent management issues and topics, as well as hi-touch execution of programs.
A key accountability of this role in the first 12 months is to build and implement a North American Employee Relations Centre of Excellence (COE) which will enable a consistent, equitable and efficient approach to Employee Relations related activities across Open Text and will be the template approach for implementation globally in the next 2 years.

You are great at:

• Lead and grow a high performing employee relations team across Canada and the US. Ensure high levels of collaboration between various HR functions including the Global HRBPs and COE stakeholders
• Coach and enable front line leaders to address employee needs, and advise business leaders on resolution of local/current talent concerns, consulting on a wide range of compliance, cultural, legal, and ethical issues
• Support performance improvement activity across the region, to drive a high-performance culture
• Understand and interpret legislative changes and practices; proactively shares relevant insights and impacts to the business. Recommend policy changes as needed
• Oversee workplace investigations and resolutions to employee concerns and policy violations, working with Legal and other functional stakeholders as required
• Create, maintain and execute an employee relations strategic and operational plan aimed at scaling for continued future growth
• Develop and execute a plan to scale to a fully global centralized employee relations model
• Balance various organizational priorities including culture, risk mitigation, cost management, organizational growth and achievement of business goals
• Review and understand talent metrics to support proactive approaches to employee relations
• Establish and maintain credibility throughout the organization and ensure strict adherence to confidentiality and sensitivity in handling all aspects of private data across the HR team
• Act as a regional SME to COE groups to support corporate program creation and roll out as needed
• Evaluate and advise on the local impact of new global programs/strategies
• Be an ambassador of the OpenText culture, values and employee experience

What it takes:

• At least 10 Years of Human Resource experience in a global organization, progressing to a leadership role, with specialization in Employee Relations in a non-unionized environment
• 5 years at a leadership level
• Expert knowledge of employment law and compliance requirements across both the US and Canada
• Customer focused with proven relationship building strengths and strong objectivity, negotiation/influence skills
• Strong analytic capability, business and financial acumen, to be able to understand and articulate the big picture and see problems from a variety of angles
• Comfort and ability to thrive in a high-change, fasted paced environment
