The Opportunity: 

As a Principal SME/Consultant in the Life Sciences Professional Services team you will work closely together with other Professional Service Consultants in the delivery of OpenText Life Sciences engagements and be responsible for acting as the Subject Matter Expert when scoping out new client projects, as well as with the Account Executives, Technical Consultants, and Strategic Partners throughout the sales and delivery cycles. The Principal SME/Consultant will provide functional thought leadership, analyze complex customer content and information requirements, and propose OpenText Life Sciences solutions which may incorporate the whole OpenText product and solution portfolio. 

The Principal Consultant is a Professional Services consultant position that requires coordination of both functional pre-sales activities around definition of the scope and effort, implementation and deployment of the proposed solution as well as troubleshooting of customer implementations. Activities include delivering solutions and value presentations to a mixed audience of technical, business, operations, and management staff; providing functional leadership on the structure, implementation and delivery of projects, providing functional guidance during the sales cycle, brainstorming sessions with clients on using various OpenText technologies and Life Sciences solution offerings in combination with industry solutions to solve real-world problems and setting internal standards and best practices for consistent and high quality project delivery. This role may also serve as the company liaison on specific technical projects with customers.   In addition, there is an expectation that you will provide functional and solution mentoring to more junior consultants.


You are great at:

  • Timely and quality delivery of project deliverables in accordance with the project schedule and timeline under the direction of the project manager.
  • Planning, scheduling activities and managing deliverables to completion
  • Effectively managing junior team member’s allocated for the project
  • Assisting in the development proposals for the Professional Services engagement in conjunction with the sales team.
  • Developing a plan and schedule with the project manager and customer for optimum delivery of the project, which will ensure integration of OpenText’s Life Sciences solutions and other OpenText products with the customer’s existing IS system and application software
  • Maintaining progress reviews of project tasks and team member assignments and escalating any issues that cannot be immediately resolved to the project manager in charge of the team
  • Ensuring that appropriate reports are written for all the appropriate deliverables
  • Developing new client engagements through your personal network as well as targeted client companies and helping with the growth of existing client relationships.
  • Monitoring changes to global Regulatory Mandates from the various regulatory authorities (FDA, EMA, JMHLW, etc.)

What it takes: 


  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in a Life Sciences discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacology or related) a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in one or more of the following: QA/Systems, Quality and Manufacturing, Compliance and Validation, Quality Management and Systems, Regulatory Affairs, Preclinical/Clinical, Safety, Labeling, Regulatory Information Management, Pharma or Biotech
  • Strong industry experience in Life Sciences using Enterprise Content Management Solutions and other Information Management solutions 
  • Strong team member that excels at bridging the gap of communication from the functional to the technical with proven experience in managing matrix teams
  • Strong understanding of Enterprise Content Management Solutions and associated business processes
  • Exceptional knowledge and expertise in business process development and change management
  • Highly motivated and ethical
  • Well networked within the industry (e.g.: Pharma, Medical Device, Biotech, etc.)
  • Strong writing and presentation capabilities
  • Able to travel up to 50% in North America
