The Opportunity: 

As a Business Consultant (Subject Matter Expert, SME), in the Life Sciences Professional Services team you will work closely together with other Professional Service Consultants in the delivery of OpenText Life Sciences engagements and be responsible for acting as the SME for customer engagements.  You will be working with fellow business oriented and technical consultants and Project Managers and at times liaise with Product Management and Product Engineering teams.  The Business Consultant will provide functional thought leadership with regards to industry best practices for their already provided domain expertise in use of our solutions, analyze complex customer content and information requirements, and propose OpenText Life Sciences solutions which may incorporate the whole OpenText product and solution portfolio. 

The Business Consultant is a Professional Services consultant position that requires coordination of both functional activities around definition of the scope and effort, implementation and deployment of the proposed solution as well as troubleshooting of customer implementations. Activities include delivering solutions and value presentations to a mixed audience of technical, business, operations, and management staff; providing functional leadership on the structure, implementation and delivery of projects, providing functional guidance during brainstorming sessions with clients on using various OpenText technologies and Life Sciences solution offerings in combination with industry solutions to solve real-world problems and setting internal standards and best practices for consistent and high quality project delivery.  In addition, there is an expectation that you will provide functional and solution mentoring to more junior consultants.


You are great at:

  • Timely and quality delivery of project deliverables in accordance with the project’s schedule and timeline under the direction of the project manager.
  • Planning, scheduling activities and managing deliverables to completion
  • Developing a plan and schedule with the project manager and customer for optimum delivery of the project, which will ensure integration of OpenText’s Life Sciences solutions and other OpenText products with the customer’s existing IS system and application software
  • Escalating any issues that cannot be immediately resolved to the project manager in charge of the team
  • Ensuring that appropriate reports are written for all the appropriate deliverables
  • Providing suggested enhancements to the Life Sciences Product Management team based on customer feedback and industry trends
  • Helping with the growth of existing client relationships.

What it takes: 

  • Minimum of 5 years in Life Sciences using Enterprise Content Management Solutions and other Information Management solutions 
  • Strong team member that excels at bridging the gap of communication from the functional to the technical with proven experience in managing matrix teams
  • Exceptional knowledge and expertise in business process development and change management
  • Highly motivated and ethical
  • Well networked within the industry (e.g.: Pharma, Medical Device, Biotech, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of life sciences industry regulations such as 21 CFR Part 11 and ICH and the like.
  • Deep understanding of validation principals such as GAMP 5, FDA, WHO and the like. 
  • Monitoring changes to global Regulatory Mandates from the various regulatory authorities (FDA, EMA, JMHLW, etc.)
  • Strong writing and presentation capabilities
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in a Life Sciences discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacology or related)
  • Able to travel up to 50% in North America
